A remote work community in a virtual cafe
Working remotely or freelance can be quiet. Midnight Cafe is a small, free remote work community that lives in a browser cafe: a place to sit near other people who work alone, chat a little and show what you are building.
Play free in your browserFree. No download. Guests welcome.

What this community is
It is a game with a social side, not a forum or a job board. You get a small character and walk into cafe rooms. There are public rooms with other people in them, and you can create your own room. It is made with indie developers, makers and freelancers in mind, and anyone is welcome.
It is new and small. You will not find thousands of members. You may find a few people at a time, which suits some people better than a big server.
What you can do there
Sit in company
Pick a room, sit down and work in another tab. See virtual coworking in the cafe.
Chat
Text chat in speech bubbles, private messages and a friends list.
Show your work
Put a project stand with a pitch and links in your room, and let visitors ask questions on a Q&A board.
Leave notes
Sticky notes on the walls and a guestbook let visitors leave a line.
How it compares
Slack and Discord communities are good for topics and long conversations. Coworking services match you with a partner for a fixed session. Midnight Cafe is for the in-between: being around people without a schedule or an agenda. It does not replace the others. There is no voice or video, and no phone version. Be kind: the house rules apply, and you can mute anyone.
