If you see something in Midnight Cafe that is illegal or breaks the terms of use, please tell us. This page says how, and what happens afterwards. It follows the notice and action rules of the EU Digital Services Act as far as they apply to a very small service like this one.
If someone is in immediate danger, call your local emergency number first.
How to report
Write an email to kontakt@philipp-schickling.de. Please put "Report" in the subject. German and English are fine.
You can also report from inside the game:
- A player: click the player, then the flag button on their card. Pick a reason, add a few words if you like, and press "Send report". Up to 10 of that player's latest chat lines that your game showed you are attached, so we can see the context.
- A room: use the flag button on the room bar at the top. It is not shown in your own rooms.
- A picture or video display: open it and press "Report" on its card.
The report goes to a list that only the operator can read. You will see a short message that it was sent. You do not get a personal answer from the in-game button; if you want an answer, or the matter is urgent, use the email as well. If you already reported the same thing, the game tells you that we have it.
What to include
- Where it is. The room name and link (for example midnightcafe.app/?room=...), the name of the player, the display, note or message, and the time you saw it. A screenshot helps a lot.
- Why it is a problem. Say which law or which rule of the terms it breaks, and why. A few sentences are enough.
- Your contact. Your name and email address, so we can answer you. If your report is about child sexual abuse material, you do not have to give your name.
- A statement that you believe, in good faith, that the information in your report is accurate and complete.
What happens next
- We confirm by email that we received your report, as soon as we can.
- We look at the content and decide whether it is illegal or breaks the rules. We do this with care and objectively. We do not promise a fixed time, because this is a one-person project. Clear and serious cases come first.
- If it is illegal or breaks the rules, we remove or hide it and may act against the account, as described in the terms. If it is not, we leave it.
- We tell you the decision and the reasons. We also tell the person whose content it was, with the reasons, unless the law or a risk to others prevents it.
A person reads every report and makes the decision. Reports are not decided automatically.
If you disagree with the decision
Answer the email and say what you think we got wrong. A person looks at it again and replies with the reason. You can also go to a court, and to the authority named below. We do not take part in consumer arbitration (see the terms, section 16).
Contact point for authorities and users
For authorities of the EU member states, the European Commission, the European Board for Digital Services, and for users, the single point of contact under Articles 11 and 12 of the Digital Services Act is:
